Black Bean Halibut

Prep time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4 People

Steaming Instructions

  1. Thaw in fridge overnight.

  2. Setup a steamer. Gather a large pot with a tight-fitting lid, a plate that will fit inside the pot, and a small rack or some balled up tinfoil to place underneath the plate. Fill the pot with a ½ inch of water and bring to a gentle simmer.

  3. Steam Halibut: Empty entire package of halibut onto the plate. At this point you can add optional garnishes if you wish. We love it with some chopped green onions, grated ginger and a few drops of sesame oil on top of the halibut, but it’s delicious with just the black bean sauce too. Carefully place the plate in the pot, being sure it stays above the water level. Put the lid on and gently simmer for about 8 minutes until just cooked through. Note you can also steam directly from frozen in about 25-30 minutes. Doneness can be observed by inserting a knife into the centre of the thickest part of the halibut. If the flesh still appears translucent then steam it for another 2-3 minutes.

  4. Enjoy! Great with steamed rice and your favorite veggies. A tasty broth will build up around the fish so be sure to add that on top of your rice or veggies.
